I have an mg 5 that starts and idles a treat once warm the problem that i have is that she won't go into gear without crunching and jumping. I suspect the clutch may have dust and muck in it so it isn't releasing. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions. I guess I will have to remove the engine and have a look.

How well does your engine tick over at idle??

If your clutch shoes are draging then this will still be turning the internals in the box causing your probs. You must sort this or you will seriously damage the gearing

Sounds like your cluch needs an overhaul which yes you will have to remove the engine & have a look

Good luck
Chris. I aint getting on no plane. Fool!

The engine ticks over lovelly nice and slow and smooth. The clutch must be catching as you suggest.

Hi we were aware of this problem heard of a lot of broken diffs from banging it into gear they tend to run on no matter how good the clutch is  its just a matter of how badly . Made up a simple clutch brake for our 5 refer to link  bj       http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ4PLUfLqw8
