We sold lots of them in the 80s  and a few GT17s and 19s- weak point was the electrics - there was a fuse board/junction box which was prone to corroded connections. We used to strip them out and replace all the push on connectors with soldered joints. Have got a lot of Ariens manuals from that period, some are 6" thick but if there's anything in particular you would like to know I can possibly scan it for you.
have you got the deck?

Hi Wristpin

Yeah when we brought it the electrics where shot. Nothing worked at all. We've had it totally re-wired so no drama's there hopefully now? We got given a operater's manual with it but that's all we've got. That's handy to know if we get stuck with anything, thanks. Unfortunately no, we don't have the deck.

Little bit more info.

Right, we brought her as a non-runner. The chap we brought it off of had trouble with the starter motor and as mentioned in previous post the electrics. After a day of re-wiring and investigation it turned out that it had got the wrong starter motor on it. So after a quick call to a very good friend of ours a starter motor was borrowed and fitted. Within a few seconds of turning over away it purred! After checking everything worked it was then time to strip it down.

Rear panel and bonnet removed.

All panels and engine removed.

Front axle removed.

Then we got started on rubbing the frame, front wheels and front axle down and getting some primer on her.

Then some top coat!

Thanks for reading. More to follow soon.
